TEXTILE ARTIST
PAULINE O’CONNELL
Pauline’s art works are a series of evocative textile works. Each work is an expression of creation, whether it is the inspiration of a flower garden, an underwater garden or a symphony of rich colour, texture and pattern, merged together in a carpet of life. An expression of the landscape conjured up by a walk in the garden or meditating on nature itself.
Each work incorporates a combination of machine felting, machine and hand embroidery, frayed and manipulated fabric, silk threads and thrums, additional applications of threads embellish the surface of either a background of silk or felt.
Pauline has exhibited work in several Exhibitions with the Melbourne Embroiderers Guild, Vanuatu and other venues and competitions by invitation.
JOHN O’CONNELL
ARTIST
Studied Art at Caulfield Institute and RMIT, majoring in painting and printmaking and qualifying as a Secondary Art Teacher. Whilst teaching art and spending time as an artist in residence in Victorian Secondary Schools, John found inspiration in encouraging students to pursue their own passion for creative expression.
Living and working in Vanuatu for a number of years and several visits to Cambodia, the direction of John’s imagery moved towards a personal reaction to the environment and culture. At present John is exploring this synergy in expressing the emotional and spiritual experiences within a framework of time and place.
Solo Exhibitions include “Beyond the Fragments”, reflections of Cambodia, and “Beneath the Surface”, an insight into the Melanesian island life.
Works are in numerous private and corporate collections in Australia and overseas.
