Join artist and tutor Narelle Callen for this relaxed, step-by-step course exploring the process of abstraction through colour, composition, acrylic and mixed media. Over 9 weeks you will discover new materials, experiment with playful mark making, develop your own colour library, and explore layering and composition techniques. You’ll also learn how to use the elements of design to approach abstraction with confidence to develop your own unique visual style.
Each week builds on the last, giving you a growing library of techniques and tools to draw on. From week 7-9 you will be building your final project that brings everything together into a piece you’ll be proud to share.
This course is suited to artists with a little experience who are ready to dive in, as well as experienced painters seeking fresh inspiration or anyone wanting to explore abstract approaches in more depth. Come experiment, grow your skills, and enjoy the creative journey in a supportive environment.

Building Depth with Acrylic Paint
Discover the versatility of acrylic painting in this hands-on course, perfect for beginners and intermediate artists.
Learn essential glazing and layering techniques to create rich, luminous surfaces.
The first half of the term focuses on skill-building studies, while the second half gives you the freedom to develop your own personal project.
