“Jazz Band”

An energetic painting where one can sense the rhythmic flow of music coming from the musicians through the colourful mark-making surrounding them. The use of palette knife texture emphasizes the high energy of the work. A very well presented painting, simply framed, without impinging on the work.
Second Prize
“Rocky Hills” by Geoff Cook
A moody painting that has a sense of something hidden, somewhere within the cavities of the rocks. A succinct subtle palette is highlighted by the dark edging that pushes colour forward and entices us inwards. The natural timber frame harmonises with the work. Well done.
Third Prize
“Serpentine” by Suzanne Gardiner
The clear resin finish accentuates the limited palette and touch of copper highlights. The painting lends itself to various interpretations by the viewer. Could it be snake skin or some other reptile. It may be an abstracted tree cut, exposing the years of growth. It’s circular rendition encourages the eye the move round and round drawing into the centre. A mysterious work, good execution and excellent presentation.

What a collection of materials this artist must have in his studio. What fun in his serious art play to plan and execute this work.
“Thor’s Thunderbolt” by Brendan Hackett
It is good see the variety of mediums and disciplines in this exhibition. This sculpture of found objects has been handled skillfully in its simplicity.
“Undercover” by Natallia Lazouskaya
A beautifully painted subject, one can feel the softness of the cat’s fur, sense the intent look. Is it shy and hiding or is it watching and waiting to catch a barn mouse. Superb presentation.
“Wine Time” by Barbara Lowe
Anyone for a red? What a marvellous subject, the light, the realism of the glass and liquid, don’t touch it, you might get wet. Set against a subtle background this painting’s creator has talent.
“Chic Ladies” by Linda McEwan
Superbly framed and presented, the subject is created using mixed media and watercolour, that pushes and pulls within the frame. What sits back, what comes forward, a work worth studying.
“Sunlit Walks” by Sheng Zhang
As we look back or forward to Autumn days, long shadows, warm sunlight, this is a feel good painting. Most details sit in the upper half, balanced by the bottom relief areas of base colour. This painting is a good example of the 5th divisions of a canvas. The two figures cut through the division and draw the eye down and around the work.

“An Opening”

The design, layout and execution of this work has been quite some time in the preparation and planning of the layers. It has a variety of techniques blended together, overlaid with impasto paint, collage and mark making. This is a work that one can spend time examining, pulling apart in mind’s eye to find the processes the artist used.
