Abstract Painting: From Observation to Interpretation
Explore the possibilities of abstract painting through a practical 8-week program focusing on colour, composition, abstraction and expressive interpretation. You will experiment with developing a considered colour palette, creating stronger compositions and using a range of techniques to move beyond literal representation.
Working from photographs, sketches and your own personal visual references, you will learn how to look beyond the obvious details of a subject and identify the shapes, colours, tonal relationships and atmosphere that can become the starting point for an abstract painting.
Through demonstrations, practical exercises and the continued development of your own work, the course will encourage you to simplify, reinterpret and make more confident creative decisions — moving from what you see towards paintings that are more personal, suggestive and individual.
Suitable for artists who have some painting experience.
